You’ve probably had this happen a few times: you’re camping, on a trip, at a friend’s house, or had an impromptu sleepover, and you realize in the morning that you don’t have a toothbrush. You try to make the best of the situation and yet your mouth still feels grimy and smelly even after you try to brush your teeth with the minimal materials you have access to. We’ve all been there at one time or another and we’ve all wanted to rush home or out to the store just to get rid of that bad taste in our mouths. Fortunately, with a dentist’s guidance, there are some ways you can still feel minty fresh even without your toothbrush. If you find yourself sans toothbrush, then today’s blog will help guide you in the right direction of still enhancing your oral health even without the necessary equipment. At Lifetime Smiles, we want to make sure you’re as prepared as possible and that means knowing how to maintain your oral hygiene even when you don’t have what you need. If You’ve Just Forgotten Your Toothbrush

Brushing your teeth is about removing the plaque and bad bacteria from your mouth. In addition to staving off cavities and other oral diseases, brushing your teeth comes down to removing all of the gunk from your mouth to ensure your oral health stays in tip-top form. If you find yourself sans just a toothbrush, then we recommend to follow this solution to your morning bad breath. Keep in mind, you don’t want to use someone else’s toothbrush because you don’t know the dirty details of where it’s been. It’s best to follow this trick when you awake without a toothbrush. Locate a paper towel, dab it with water, put some toothpaste on it, and then brush your teeth the best you can. Try to get in between the nooks and crannies of your mouth to make sure you get rid of all of the bad bacteria. In addition, if you have floss or mouthwash, then we recommend using those as well, to kill off all of the bad bacteria. Lastly, don’t forget to brush your tongue either with the paper towel or just by swishing some water around your mouth.

If You’ve Forgotten Everything

If you have forgotten everything, then don’t worry because you can use some of these materials to maintain minty fresh breath without a toothbrush. Some materials you can use are sugar-free gum, water, a small washcloth, mouthwash, and floss. When you forget all of your oral hygiene products, you can use water because of the fluoride in it and water removes plaque from your teeth. Sugar-free gum is great to use because it’s minty and will produce more saliva in your mouth, which rinses the bacteria in your mouth. A small washcloth is a great way to maintain oral hygiene because you can rub it over your teeth, similarly to the above tip of when you forget your toothbrush, however, this time it’s just the washcloth. Another way to ‘brush your teeth’ without any oral hygiene products is by getting your finger wet and scrubbing over your gums and swishing with water.
