What Kind Of Toothbrush Should I Use?

Dec 12, 2013

Looking to invest in a new toothbrush but don’t know what kind to get? That is not an uncommon problem. There are two main categories for toothbrushes today, manual and electric. Choosing between the two can be difficult and may depend more on cost than anything else. As always, the best decision is always an informed one, so here are some facts about the two kinds of toothbrushes:

Electric Toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes have become very popular over the last few years. They are much more expensive than manual toothbrushes, but their expense is due to the quality of it’s cleaning capability. Although it varies from brand to brand, electric toothbrush benefits include timers or sensors that help the user perfect their brushing skills. Electric toothbrushes are great options for those who have a lower dexterity range or children who lack the necessary oral hygiene skills.

Manual Toothbrush

A manual toothbrush also has it’s advantages. Depending on it’s quality (and it’s quality typically correlates with it’s price), a manual toothbrush is a much less expensive way to clean your teeth. Manual toothbrushes will require more physical labor, and its advantages also depend on how meticulous you are in your brushing habits. If you are a strong brusher, there is really no need to spend a lot of money on an electric brush when a manual one will suit you just fine.

Choosing a toothbrush is an important decision, but it all falls on the owner to properly integrate these tools into their daily habits. Regardless of what toothbrush you choose, you should spend at least 5 minutes a day cleaning the plaque off of your teeth, brushing at least twice a day.
