But how do you know when it’s an emergency? When is an issue with your tooth an emergency and when can it wait for the next day or the next appointment?

When It’s a Dental Emergency…

Your tooth is knocked out or almost knocked out.

Many times this is due to an injury or an accident. If your tooth is knocked out (or nearly knocked out) you’ll want to see a dentist right away. That way the tooth may be able to be saved and you can avoid the cost of an implant.

You are experiencing severe dental pain.

Any severe pain is a sign that’s something is wrong in your mouth. If you are experiencing pain, we encourage you to come into our dental office for help. We’ll help you find the cause of your pain and help ease it.

You’ve chipped or cracked a tooth.

Chipped or cracked teeth are also time-sensitive issues. The sooner you have an experienced dentist look at your chipped or cracked tooth, the more likely it is that they will be able to save it and you can avoid costly dental work to repair it.

You’ve lost a filling, crown, or bridge.

Losing any kind of dental work can be quite serious. In some cases, the loss of your dental work doesn’t result in any pain, while in other cases it might be quite painful. The most important thing is to preserve the health of your teeth and repair the dental work as quickly as possible.

…And When It Can Wait

Some toothaches don’t require same-day assistance, and lost veneers are not considered an emergency. Wanting a quick tooth whitening treatment isn’t considered an emergency, either. In general, if you aren’t experiencing pain, it can probably wait. If you are concerned, you can call our office and see if we have a same-day appointment available. We often build time into our schedule to accommodate for emergencies, so even if your case isn’t an emergency but is simply urgent, we may be able to still see you sooner than you expected.

We can help you decide.

If you are experiencing an issue with your teeth but aren’t sure whether or not it’s an emergency, talk to our team and we’ll help you decide. Give us a call at 512-284-8954 and tell us what’s happening with your teeth. We’ll assist you in determining whether or not you need to come into our office immediately. If you do, we’ll be waiting for you! Make sure you get the help that you need in order to preserve the appearance and health of your beautiful smile!
